FAQs

When should I call Fayetteville Moving?

If you need to move today, we can probably do that.  If you require a written in-home estimate, you should call well in advance of your moving date, about 7 days to 2 weeks ahead.  There are many details to be attended to relating to a move so the earlier you start, the easier it will be.

How long does Fayetteville Moving need for an in-home estimate?

Usually no more than an hour.

What is involved in an in-home estimate?

An in-home estimate is the interview between the customer service representative (CSR) and the customer who is moving. A visit will be scheduled to your home at your convenience to determine the requirements of your move.  The interview and survey has several purposes:

  • Estimate the weight of your shipment
  • Estimate your packing requirements
  • Determine logistics, i.e. access to residence, elevators, stairs, etc.
  • Review your responsibilities, explain the moving process, discuss your individual needs and concerns
  • Offer suggestions that will meet those needs and still remain within your budget

How are moving charges calculated?

Local moving services (under 50 miles) are charged at an hourly rate depending upon the size of your move.  Your customer service representative will be able to accurately calculate how many men will be required to complete the move most economically.

Interstate (long distance moves) are charged by how much weight you are moving and the distance you are moving, plus any additional services you require, such as packing.

Are there any items that cannot be moved?

There are several items that cannot be moved for safety reasons.  Your CSR can provide you with a more comprehensive list, but in general they fall into the following catagories:  Aerosols, flammables, cleaning agents, combustibles, plants, ammunition, and paints.

Do the movers disassemble and re-assemble my furniture if it is required?

Yes, the movers will disassemble any furniture to prepare it for shipping, including beds, tables, and dresser mirrors.  Then they will re-assemble each piece in your new home.

Do the movers disconnect and reconnect major appliances?

No, it is your responsibility to see that appliances are serviced for shipping before they are loaded on the van.  Upon request, your CSR can arrange for a third party that specializes in preparing appliances for shipment to provide this service for you.

Am I protected against loss or damage while my goods are in transit?

Yes, but how much protection will depend upon the valuation option that you select. Valuation is not insurance.  It is the tariff based level of liability that the mover assumes.  Atlas Van Lines provides Full Replacement Valuation up to $75,000 at no cost to you.  Discuss with your CSR how much valuation you may need above this amount and what the charge would be.

When do I pay?

You may wait and pay at destination, but you must pay before the truck will be unloaded.  If you pay at destination you must have cash, a certified check (no personal checks) or a credit card.  You may elect to pay at origin after your shipment is loaded on the van and the charges calculated.  You may pay with a personal check at origin.

What if I cannot be present at loading or delivery?

You must appoint someone to represent you (friend, neighbor, relative etc.) and indicate so on all paperwork.

What do I need to do to prepare mowers for shipment?

Drain all oil and gasoline from mowers, weedeaters, motorcycles, and any other machinery.

Will you move propane tanks?
